John is an experienced entrepreneur and mentor who launched his first startup business in 1998.
He has founded three businesses and run them from birth through to trade sale.
Since the sale of his last business in 2008, John has provided significant levels of seed funding for three further startup companies. John took a break in 2012 to train and take part in a Trans-Atlantic sailing race.
On his return, John took over the management of one of these businesses, exiting in February 2016 following a successful turnaround. All three businesses benefitting from John’s ‘angel investments’ have gone on to become successful.
John has history of successfully commercialising cutting-edge IT projects. In 2000, his data analytics business ‘Cognisance’ was an early adopter of AI, becoming one of the first businesses to successfully deploy neural network-driven predictive modelling for marketing analytics. Cognisance also deployed the UK's first online marketing database solution in 2001. John's most recent business, AI Data Intelligence, lead the market in complex ‘matchkey’ algorithm technology.
John enjoys off shore sailing and is a keen dog walker out and about in the Surrey countryside every day with Billy the Spaniel and his partner Tamsin.
Maggie began her career in publishing as Product Manager with Pearson Publishing, an established educational publisher, software developer and provider of training systems. Maggie’s role had a focus on PR, exhibitions and trade marketing.
Having joined The Stationery Office (TSO), part of the Williams Lea Group, the leading global provider of Corporate Information Solutions; Maggie became involved in the development of web-based projects. Her work essentially formed project behind what is now the online brand GOV.UK.
Maggie likes to relax by spending time with her family and friends. She is a keen yogi and has recently developed a passion for kickboxing.
Steve is a Tech entrepreneur with over 22 years experience and multiple exits valued at over £4000M. He is a Former Private Equity fund founding Partner and is currently a Non-Executive Director and Chairman of a PE backed business.
Steve specialises in bringing business ideas to life, matching teams to goals and relentlessly driving businesses toward their goal.
Steve enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He has a passion for cycling, riding his motorbike and driving his recently restored Peugeot 205 GTi. His love of cars led him to compete in the Britcar series, following which, he went on to learn to fly a helicopter.
Tamsin is a corporate culture and leadership manager. Prior to helping create Human Technology in 2017 she was corporate culture and communications manager for Civil Service Healthcare Ltd, a mutual organisation providing health insurance to civil service, public sector and not-for-profit employees.
Reporting directly to the CEO, Tamsin developed and delivered a methodology to instigate and action cultural change. This included psychometric testing, reward systems, introducing key behaviours and linking these to performance, team building and training and development programmes to reshape CSH corporate culture. She has a background in Graphic Design, Marketing and Rebranding.
Tamsin enjoys running and horse riding, is passionate about health, fitness and well-being and likes to relax with family and friends and by walking her dog out and about in the Surrey countryside with her partner John.
Chief Systems and AI Architect
For over 20 years, Nick has participated in software startups as an entrepreneur, investor and advisor. His focus over the last decade has been on fledgling artificial intelligence-based web, cloud, and mobile app businesses.
Having begun his career as a programmer (he started coding at the age of 12 - in ‘Basic’ on a Sinclair ZX80!). He has a solid grasp of the technical and strategic requirements of taking a startup through to a fully-fledged trading entity.
Nick is able to bridge the divide that is usually present between the ‘techies’ and the ‘suits’, understanding both their needs, having been a programmer and a businessman. Nick is a hands-on guy, where necessary assisting with creating algorithms, writing specs, defining user experiences, and refining ideas and plans.
Nick is gifted at foreseeing the way ahead for revenue models, creating financial frameworks, writing business plans, advising on valuations, raising seed and venture capital, and such related matters.
On the very rare occasions when Nick isn’t at work, he enjoys walking his Yorkshire Terrier around the beautiful landscape of Cyprus, with his partner Julie, a nutritionist and health coach.
